As a business you know that you should be blogging, but one of the most common questions we get from our dealers is – “What should we blog about?” It’s a fair question, so today we’ll go over some basic ideas about topics that your dealership could cover on your blog, as well as why it might be a good idea to create a content calendar if you want to kick your blogging strategy into high gear.

Announcements

  • When your dealership has news to share – let’s say you’re holding a big sale or your store starts to carry a new brand, or something along those lines – write a blog post about it! Blogging provides a place for long-form content that allows you to go more into detail than you could in an email, social media post, or even traditional advertising methods like flyers and commercials.

Seasonal

  • As the seasons change, there are many different topics that become relevant to the people who read your blog. For example, as an RV dealer approaching the start of summer, you could share a breakdown of the local campgrounds that they could visit on a trip, or RV-friendly campfire recipes. As fall ends and winter begins, a marine dealership might write about how and where to properly store a boat. In the spring, an agricultural equipment dealership could share best practices for landscaping and lawn upkeep. Get creative!

Events

  • Providing details about an upcoming event at your dealership is a great way to add content to your site. After the event takes place you’ll have content to blog about too – pictures, details, and a breakdown of how the event came together. If you don’t hold many events at your dealership, you could post about events in the community that your team attends, or local causes you support.

Personal Experiences

  • Where does your passion for the industry come from? As a powersports dealership team member, maybe you fell in love with riding as a teenager when you got your first dirt bike. If you are a truck dealership owner or manager, perhaps it’s a family business that has always been a part of your life. Your blog readers (prospects & customers) are passionate about the industry too, so it’s likely that they would enjoy reading about your experience as well as others on your team. If you have regular or long-time customers who have experiences to share, you could even ask them to write a guest blog post.

Dealership History & Stories

  • Have you shared the history of your dealership? Even if there is some information about it on your website, there are likely many more details. This provides a great opportunity for not only one blog post, but even a series of posts that cover the origin of your business up to all that it is today. If you don’t have a long dealership history, you still have a back story to share, and likely other fun stories related to the business as well.

Every dealership will be different when it comes to what they post about and how often they post on their blog, but the best way to stay organized is to create a content calendar and schedule posts ahead of time. This way, you can determine what each post will cover, who will write it, and when it will go up. Using a blog tool like Dealer Spike's, which is built into your website platform, makes scheduling and managing blog posts simple and worry-free.
